Sample Edit

Why request a sample edit?

  • See the process in action. Getting edits on your own writing is the clearest way to understand the process. A sample edit lets you preview how I’d engage with your manuscript, from the types of changes I suggest to how I preserve your voice while strengthening the work.

  • Assess compatibility. Every editor has a different style. This gives you a chance to see if mine aligns with your expectations, your goals, and your story.

  • Align Expectations. The sample also helps me understand your manuscript’s needs, so I can offer a more accurate quote, timeline, and suggested service level.

I offer sample edits because I value trust, transparency, and creative alignment. If we’re going to work together, I want you to feel confident in the process from the very beginning.

A sample edit is a short excerpt (typically 1,000–2,000 words) edited using Track Changes and margin comments. It gives you a clear preview of how I approach your writing: what I focus on, how I give feedback, and how I preserve your voice while helping strengthen the work. I offer sample edits for line editing and copyediting. Send me a message and we can discuss your options!

The Editorial Process.

Step One: Inquiry & Sample
Fill out the inquiry form with details about your manuscript and the type of edit you’re looking for. If you’re booking a line or copy edit, I’ll provide a sample edit so you can see how I work.

Step Two: Proposal & Booking
You’ll receive a project quote, timeline, and contract. Once you’re ready to move forward, a deposit secures your spot in my calendar.

Step Three: Editing & Delivery
You send your manuscript. I complete the edit and deliver your materials, along with a summary and optional follow-up to walk through any questions.
